Happy Thanksgiving!!!

“May His name endure forever;

may it continue as long as the sun.

All nations will be blessed through Him,

and they will call Him blessed.”

– Psalm 72:17

Happy Thanksgiving all!  We are so thankful today for so many things.  We have all been blessed so richly and it is easy to be thankful for the “big things”: homes, cars, abundant food, family, health, freedom…   But we invite you today to be on the lookout for the not-so-obvious blessings.  The blessings beyond the scope of what we imagine for ourselves.  The “blessings in disguise”.  Those things that, when recognized, we understand will bring us closer to God – the greatest blessing of all.

So often God blesses us in ways that we are not expecting or asking for.  We may pray for something specific and He, in his infinite Wisdom, outdoes our request by giving us something beyond what we could have imagined.  Maybe he withholds something we thought we needed to guide us to a more faithful discipline.  As the all-powerful Creator, He designs a plan that blesses us more richly than we, in our finite minds, could design for ourselves.  In His enduring Love, He offers far more than we could arrange for ourselves.

Sometimes God leads us into something we thought we didn’t want or weren’t looking for.  It’s hard to see the whole picture from the valleys; easy from the mountaintops.  This in itself is a great blessing in disguise.  Not seeing the whole picture, or being led in a new direction, offers us the opportunity to walk more closely with our Guide and, if we but trust Him, He will always lead us into something greater.  Away from the false security of our wider predictable paths.  Into the wilds where the real beauty lies.

Our prayer for you today, our friends, is that you seek and find those hidden blessings and that they lead you to a closer walk with Him…

I am weak but Thou art strong
Jesus keeps me from all wrong
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee

Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea
Daily walking close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

When my feeble life is o’er
Time for me shall be no more
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore

When life’s sun sinks in the west
Lord, may I have done my best
May I find sweet peace and rest
In that happy home of the blessed
